For more than 165 years the Austin community has generously shared their time and talents with students at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. We have volunteer opportunities throughout the year and during special events. The first step is to complete your volunteer application. After the application is received, a TSBVI staff person will contact you to discuss your volunteer placement.

All volunteers on campus must complete an application and pass a criminal background check. (TSBVI covers the cost of the background check conducted by the TX Department of Public Safety). Why do you want to be a volunteer at this school?*

Applicant Criminal Record Check (Texas Government Code 411.098 authorizes a school district to obtain the criminal history record of every applicant for employment or volunteer services with the district.) Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) will absorb the cost of conducting the background check through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). To proceed with the background check please provide your birthday. (If for any reason you do not wish to provide your date of birth, you may have the criminal record check conducted at your own expense at DPS.)

The Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the other parties to this authorization form agree that the digital authorization of the parties included herein is intended to authenticate this writing and to have the same force and effect as the use of manual signatures. It shall be enforceable as if signed by hand, and is signed in accordance with the Texas Uniform Electronic Transaction Act (ETA), Tex. Bus. & Com. Code Chapter 322.
